It is flown to honor my beliefs and to honor those who have fought and died defending our democracy. It is my flag and our democracy to defend against all foes, foreign and domestic. I now have a new reason to fly her proudly, to Recapture the Flag!
I completely agree with you! I have been pushing this idea since the Obama/Biden ticket. I put a flag sticker above the Obama/Biden sticker to make my position clear. It is my flag, my country and I am not ceding this important symbol to people who are trying to destroy what it stands for.
Marty - your lawn sign (in my yard) does not say you are running for circuit (?) judge - it says Democrats - and judgeships are non oartisan - I don’t think it accomplishes. Telling folks you have competition and are running for judge (not representative)
When I was young disrespecting our flag was not to be tolerated. It should be displayed by day, then folded and retired at night. Now I see it flown in tatters on a truck (too often with Trump insignias). I too would like to reclaim our flag, but it is not clear to me how. Just displaying it does not seem helpful, as it really has been appropriated by those that think it represents something else than I do. Pairing it with a Biden sticker, as was suggested in another comment, undoes some of the association, but that is also polarizing (though I happen to respect Joe enormously). This is hard. Something different that merely displaying our colors is needed. Doing something that will safeguard voting integrity in our community, protecting and supporting our teachers and school board members, the list goes on...
We can’t live in these peoples ignorant stupidity who don’t understand what the flag stands for and how it is to be treated. My feelings on OUR FLAG hasn’t changed, I was taught to respect our flag and to treat it with the proper dignity. The etiquette on how to treat our flag has been lost or people are not educated on how to treat our flag. Having a ripped and torn flag on the back of a pickup truck is NOT honoring our flag, It’s completely disrespectful. I’m willing to bet these people haven’t fought for our country, and yes some are flying our American flag for their own selfish reasons , not to be united together in protecting all of our freedom. DO NOT BUY an AMERICAN FLAG MADE IN CHINA!!
Marty, it’s a sad state of affairs that you would have to think about what other people think about you flying our country’s flag. I say, if our flag offends you, then perhaps you should go live in another country.
My wife and I agree and have been saying this for 5 years. How about the Democratic party raising money by selling American made flags and stickers? (Free flag with a contribution.) Let's take back our flag!
